Enhancing the Shropshire Union Canal

The Shropshire Union canal network stretches in the east from the Midlands to the Mersey. In the west it reaches into north and mid Wales via the Llangollen and Montgomery Canals.

Play a role in safeguarding this beautiful community asset. For over 50 years the Shropshire Union Canal Society has worked to maintain, improve and restore it. We are open and welcoming and always looking for new people to get involved. See how on our Support Us page.

Our restoration work is opening up the dry section of the Montgomery Canal in Shropshire, providing an amenity for all and linking the Welsh section with the national canal network. Our recent project opens up a further 11/4 miles to navigation in 2023. Two miles remain. Our new project ‘Crickheath South’ started in 2023 restores a further 1/2 mile and is well underway. See our Restoration page.

We are a registered charity run entirely by volunteers.
