Our Vision
A thriving, sustainable, and environmentally-friendly canal network providing recreation and pleasure for everyone.
Preserve, Protect, and Enjoy the Shropshire Union Canal Network
Since 1966, the Shropshire Union Canal Society has worked tirelessly to promote, protect, restore and enhance this beautiful network for the benefit of all. Our current projects include:
- Restoration: Reopening the final dry section of the Montgomery Canal in England, reconnecting it to the national canal network.
- Enhancement: Improving the Llangollen Canal around Ellesmere for all users to enjoy.
The Network
The Shropshire Union canal network stretches from the Midlands to the Mersey and extends into north and mid-Wales. This historic network includes the Shropshire Union Main Line, the Llangollen Canal, the Montgomery Canal and several branches.
