Society History

In the Post-War era public interest in canals grew as the amenity opportunities were recognised. Public mood grew ahead of the nationalised bodies responsible for custodianship. As a result, organisations across the country were established to restore the run-down facilities in their area. The Shropshire Union Canal Society was one such. Read more…

The Society is a registered charity and limited company, run by a council of management. The council and society as a whole is run entirely by volunteers. Read more…
