We are very pleased to share another strong performance at the recent health and safety audit of the Society’s restoration work, performed annually by Canal & River Trust. All parameters were assessed as either ‘Good’ or ‘Aspects of Best Practice’ which are the top two categories.
Jason Leach, CRT Head of External Programme Delivery, who performed the audit commented:“The scale and quality of the work being delivered is genuinely impressive and demonstrates considerable technical expertise, organisation and commitment from the volunteer workforce.
What particularly stood out was the approach to health and safety. Their near-miss reporting is excellent, but more importantly, reports are being followed up with practical actions and improvements. The approach to health and safety demonstrates a mature, open and proactive safety culture. There is some excellent practice here especially around encouraging reporting, learning from incidents and closing out action.
A real credit to everyone involved. They are delivering an ambitious restoration programme while maintaining a strong commitment to safe working.”
