May 2023 Ellesmere work party report

May 13

Well! Don’t these look better. Some of the refurbished furniture.

What a pleasant way to spend a Saturday! In glorious sunny spring weather, five volunteers repaired and painted a number of picnic tables and benches on the towpath opposite the historic yard in central Ellesmere. This was the society’s first enhancement work party for many years. Future events will be based on the Llangollen Canal and centred on Ellesmere.

The benches that were worked on were originally installed by the society nearly twenty years ago and now look as good as new. There was a great deal of local interest in the work from towpath walkers and boaters alike.

The next work party will be on June 17 at the same location when we will be continuing the upgrade of the towpath furniture. The meeting point is the White Bridge at the end of the Ellesmere Arm of the Llangollen canal from 9.30AM onwards.

Many thanks to Graham Mitchell for his photos – a bit of a technical hitch with ours!
